The Marthasville Volunteer Fire Department is very pleased to announce that our department has been awarded an AFG government grant (Assistance to Fire Fighters Grant) through the Department of Homeland Security. The funds will be used to purchase 31 new SCBA’s (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) or the air packs that fire fighters wear on their backs to enter smoky fires. Two RIT Packs (Rapid Intervention Team air packs) to rescue trapped fire fighters, and two Thermal Imaging Cameras to aid in the search of trapped fire victims or searching for lost persons in the woods.

All these items will be purchased with $ 182,258 received from the AFG grant with Marthasville Volunteer Fire Department paying only a five percent matching fee or $ 9,592.00 for a total of $ 191,850 dollars. This equipment should be in service by the beginning of February after firefighters receive training on the new equipment.
